Aidlin Darling Reimagines a Cabinet of Curiosities for Googles Flagship Retail Outlet in Mountain View

Speaking of matching the wallpaper, I ordered a custom roman shade in the same fabric and even though we rarely bother with closing the shade in this room, it’s a nice finishing touch that instantly made the room feel more polished and pulled together. I’d been coveting this Quadrille Arbre de Matisse wallpaper forever and decided to splurge in this small space. My dad installed the beadboard and chair rail to add a little architectural interest and keep things light and bright, plus it meant we could get away with ordering half as much wallpaper. We used this inexpensive beadboard and this chair rail (both painted this color) and it looks like it’s always been part of the house. RIPPING OUT CARPET AND REFINISHING HARDWOOD FLOORS  //  This was the only project we undertook before we moved in last July and it made a world of difference. You can find details on our hardwood floors, the floor stain we chose, and the white paint color throughout our house in this post.

To build the composition, hundreds of oak-clad units are assembled in vertical layers—storage boxes on the bottom, hands-on areas in the middle, displays at the top, and a cantilevering cornice at the tippy-top. One side of the wall is devoted to product placement, the other to feel-good marketing. Aidlin Darling did “a lot of painstaking studies,” Chiang says, to figure out how the electrical cables and outlets necessary to power demo products and video screens make their way through this labyrinth while remaining out of sight. This unanticipated insert has a surprising origin story. “We thought about the precedent of a cabinet of curiosities,” says Kent Chiang, principal and project architect at San Francisco–based Aidlin Darling Design.

Let customers speak for us

We considered a number of different gliders and I’m really glad we went with this one in the optic white. (The exact style is no longer available but this one is similar in style and price!) It’s risky to buy a chair without sitting in it first but thankfully it’s super comfy and the color is the perfect crisp white. I topped it with this adorable appliqué pillow that matches the blue in the wallpaper pretty closely.

Here you can see the pool the way it looked when we bought the house. It was a perfectly functional pool for adults, but as a family with young kids, we felt strongly about being able to install an automatic cover and to replace all the gravel and ground coverings with a proper patio and lawn. The brand, which is beloved for its collection of classic-preppy clothing and accessories — think Natucket-style Americana — has long had my heart. I have countless pieces from Tuckernuck in my closet; my favorite recent purchase being a floral summer dress designed by Emerson Fry and handmade in India. This bookcase previously lived everywhere from our living room in Dallas to our dining room in Greenwich and I’m so happy we could find a home for it in Teddy’s nursery. It’s the perfect spot for books, stuffed animals, and baskets filled with diapers, wipes, and blankets.

MY THIRD 101 IN 1001 LIST

It’s such a bright and happy sight when you first walk into the room! I wish this exact piece were still available, but I found a similar style here. REMOVING CARPET, REFINISHING FLOORS, ADDING BEADBOARD AND WALLPAPER IN THE NURSERY  //  We knew we wanted to use our smallest bedroom as a nursery for our babies and it came a long way in a short period of time! You can see all of the finished space in this post. When coming up with a venue for the trunk show, we were touched by a stroke of serendipity. Interior design darling Amy Berry was days away from opening her new namesake boutique, Amy Berry Home, on Oak Lawn.

There was another long delay waiting for the company that sprays the concrete, but the day they arrived was one of the most exciting days of the project! Then they backfilled with dirt around the new shape. After relocating the stone wall that was originally beyond the old pool! This was day #1 of work on the pool, removing the old oversized concrete surround. This is a perfect piece for layering or to wear on its own. The day of the dinner — held the evening before the store’s grand opening — Berry was busy putting the finishing touches on her store, but held off on installing her full line of furniture and accessories.

Lighting fixtures are like pieces of jewelry in any finished space and especially in a bathroom that’s otherwise very light, bright, and simple. Mackenzie has been blogging on her site Design Darling since 2009. She writes about decorating and personal style, keeps a list of 101 things she’s hoping to accomplish in the next 1001 days, and share parts of her life as a mom to three boys designing a home, wardrobe, and life she loves. Since there was a lot of growth in her personal life in the past decade, it was time for her brand and website to reflect that with a new clean and elevated look. One of the biggest differences in the renovation came from moving the only window in the bathroom from the far wall opposite the door to the right wall opposite the shower. This not only made the house much more symmetrical and aesthetically pleasing from the exterior, but it gave us a lot more light since the relocated window overlooks our backyard instead of the roofline over our garage.

The next piece I ordered was this custom changer from ducduc. I knew we didn’t have space for a separate changing table and dresser, so this piece functions as both with a separate topper we can remove once we’re past our diaper-changing years. My mom and I made a trip to their showroom in New York to check out all the different options in person and decided on this Savannah dresser with five drawers, nickel hardware, and interior drawers custom painted to match the wallpaper. The quality of their pieces is incredible and the sky is truly the limit in terms of customizing each design to fit your space.

The next day I popped back in to Amy Berry Home for more shopping and to reconvene with Gailliot and Votta. Fueled by Whispering Angel rose and a multi-course meal by Cassandra Fine Catering, the girls in attendance stayed late, chatting all things fashion, design, and upcoming summer travel plans.

The cane crib was our next decorating decision and I’m so happy with how it looks in here. It was hard to get a photo without a wide angle lens but it’s absolutely beautiful in person! I wanted to avoid putting a bunch of nails in the newly hung wallpaper so we went with the floor stand option for our baby monitor (which we continue to be obsessed with — more in this post). When I first dreamt up the nursery, I imagined hanging a few pieces of art, but we ultimately decided it would actually detract from the wallpaper and opted to keep things simple.

I had ordered these Matouk bath towels for my parents last summer as a housewarming present when they moved in so it was fun to pick out a few coordinating pieces to complete the space before photographing it. Matouk makes some of the most exquisite bath and bed linens and these Cairo towels are no exception. The azure blue trim is a perfect match with the Thibaut “Bungalow” wallpaper my mom chose for the space! I ordered samples of this 3″ x 6″ white Thassos marble subway tile to coordinate with the color of the floor tile and it was a welcome upgrade from the dated square tiles that were here when we bought the house. We used the same shower head and valve trim as we did in our hall bathroom. And then I decided on these more traditional shower door handles that are so weighty and beautiful in person.

Mortgage rates today, April 26, 2024: Highest rates since November

house mortgage rates

CNET’s mortgage calculator below can help homebuyers prepare for monthly mortgage payments. However, the total amount of interest you pay on a 15‑year fixed-rate loan will be significantly lower than what you’d pay with a 30‑year fixed-rate mortgage. Homeowners need to shop around to look for the best mortgage deal possible.

How to calculate your mortgage payments

Mortgage rates rose throughout 2023 but are expected to drop in 2024. The Federal Reserve, which hiked rates throughout much of 2022 and 2023, has indicated it will begin cutting rates in 2024 amid falling inflation and a slowing economy. "This was my first real mortgage … the interest rate was way better than anyone else could offer and the process … was so fluid." The final real estate brokerage involved in a major lawsuit over agent commissions has agreed to a settlement in the landmark case. Mortgage rates today, April 27, 2024: 30-year and 15-year rates inch up

The bleak picture has led some experts to predict a buying boom once rates fall. The contract rate on a 30-year fixed mortgage increased 11 basis points in the week ended April 19 to 7.24%, the highest since Nov. 24, according to Mortgage Bankers Association data released Wednesday. To sum it up, it’s still not the best time to buy a house because rates are relatively high and prices remain firm. But if the timing is right for you, your budget can accommodate the higher rates, and you've found the home for you, there's no time like the present.

FHA loan (government loan)

Alternate loan durations can be selected and results can be filtered using the [Filter Results] button in the bottom left corner. You can select multiple durations at the same time to compare current rates and monthly payment amounts. The pros and cons of 15-year fixed mortgage rates are basically swapped from the 30-year rates. Yes, your monthly payments will still be predictable, but another advantage is that shorter terms come with lower interest rates.

Inflation has slowed significantly since it peaked last year, but it has to slow further before rates will begin to fall. The affordability crisis contributed to sales of existing homes dropping 4.3% between February and March, the largest percentage-point decline since November 2022.

FHA Loans

Non-conforming loans are not limited to the size limit of conforming loans, like a jumbo loan, or the guidelines like government-backed loans, although lenders will have their own criteria. In addition to mortgages options (loan types), consider some of these program differences and mortgage terminology. Zillow's mortgage calculator gives you the opportunity to customize your mortgage details while making assumptions for fields you may not know quite yet. These autofill elements make the home loan calculator easy to use and can be updated at any point. Programs, rates, terms and conditions are subject to change without notice. Individuals should begin their mortgage search before they begin their home search.

This week, 30-year mortgage rates went up by 0.07% and 15-year rates increased by 0.05%. See competitive mortgage rates from lenders that match your criteria and compare your offers side-by-side. For example, by paying upfront 1% of the total interest to be charged over the life of a loan, borrowers can typically unlock mortgage rates that are about 0.25% lower. Borrowers can get preapproved for a mortgage by meeting the lender’s minimum qualifications for the type of home loan you’re interested in. For example, a conventional mortgage usually has higher credit score and down payment requirements than government loans, such as Federal Housing Administration (FHA) and Veterans Affairs (VA) mortgages. The APR is the total cost of your loan, which is the best number to look at when you’re comparing rate quotes.

Mortgage Rates Today: April 16, 2024—15-Year and 30-Year Mortgage Rates Move Up

But once the “teaser” initial rate period expires, your monthly payment could go up based on the terms of the program you chose. If you see rates that work with your finances, get a rate lock from your lender so you don’t lose access to that interest rate in the time it takes to find your dream home and close on your loan. She researches both current and historical trends in the mortgage industry in order to give the best analysis and guidance to readers grappling with these complex financial products. If you’re interested in taking out a mortgage, Channel’s advice is to focus on what you can afford in the current market.

In addition to monetary policy, lenders also have an impact on mortgage rates. A lender with physical locations and a lot of overhead may charge higher interest rates to cover its operating costs and make a profit on its mortgage business. On the other hand, lenders that operate solely online, tend to offer lower mortgage rates because they have less fixed costs to cover. Further, making a minimum down payment of 20% on conventional mortgages can help you automatically waive private mortgage insurance premiums, which increases your borrowing costs.

For example, FHA loans can require 3.5% down with a minimum credit score of 580 or at least 10% down with a credit score between 500 and 579. However, upfront and annual mortgage insurance premiums can apply for the life of the loan. Borrowers with a 30-year fixed-rate jumbo mortgage with today’s interest rate of 7.69% will pay $712 per month in principal and interest per $100,000. That means that on a $750,000 loan, the monthly principal and interest payment would be around $5,344 and you’d pay approximately $1.17 million in total interest over the life of the loan. A resilient economy and robust job market also drive inflation higher and increase demand for mortgages. However, the Federal Reserve has indicated it will begin cutting rates in 2024 as the economy cools and inflation continues to fall. Assuming these trends hold steady, you can expect to see lower mortgage rates in 2024. But these predictions are based on assumptions that may or may not pan out. Borrowers who comparison shop tend to get lower rates than borrowers who go with the first lender they find. However, to get the most accurate quote, you can either go through a mortgage broker or apply for a mortgage through various lenders.

We're unlikely to see significant rate drops until autumn at the earliest. An FHA loan is government-backed, insured by the Federal Housing Administration. FHA loans have looser requirements around credit scores and allow for low down payments. An FHA loan will come with mandatory mortgage insurance for the life of the loan. Denali National Park is larger than Vermont and home to the highest peak on the continent.

Review: Oceania Cruises’ Vista

With some of the most stunning wilderness in existence and famous wildlife, it’s part of the definitive experience of traveling to the Great Land’s wild interior. That’s because I was on a cruisetour — part cruise and part land tour — and the adventures had hardly been confined to just the ship. Already that morning I had woken up to the mountains and turquoise waters of the Kenai Peninsula, visited a glacier, and spotted a teeny tiny iceberg floating in the depths. That week I had counted moose, watched a grizzly bear saunter down a snowy road in Denali National Park, traversed the rivers near Fairbanks, and raced four wheeled ATV’s through muddy back roads. There’s a world of sights to be seen in the Great Land and our Alaska cruise excursions give you a front-row seat to it all.

Explore Denali National Park on an Alaska land and sea package

Visit wilderness playgrounds like Glacier Bay National Park – a UNESCO World Heritage Site – along with even more natural wonderlands like Endicott Arm & Dawes Glacier, College Fjord and Hubbard Glacier. A Princess exclusive, this new cruisetour is curated to provide whales breaching in Glacier Bay National Park, bear viewing in Katmai National Park and observing Denali’s “Big 5” such as moose and caribou in Denali National Park. Wildlife enthusiasts will be thrilled with the opportunities to observe these incredible creatures in their natural habitats.

Pop into local jewelry and artist shops and feast on warm pot pies on Granville Island, and admire the antique Gastown Steam Clock as you stroll through the waterfront neighborhood’s charming red-bricked streets. The information was broadcast across the ship and on individual stateroom TV’s, and we were given a schedule of when we would reach certain highlights (like the breathtaking Margerie Glacier).

Complete Guide to the Port Canaveral Cruise Port

port canaveral cruise terminal

Rather than drive yourself, we suggest using transportation from the Orlando Airport to Port Canaveral cruise terminals. This terminal can be found at 9005 Charles M. Rowland Drive, Cape Canaveral. Terminal 10 is primarily used as a home port by MSC cruise ships, including MSC Divina and MSC Meraviglia.

Full-service hotel

They were among the Port's first cruise facilities and can handle not more than 1900 passengers. The 20-month-long, multi-phased project included 5 separate contracts. Demolition works (of the existing Terminal 3 building) started in April 2018, at the cost of US$210,000. On December 5, 2018, Canaveral Port Authority (CPA) approved a series of bonds (up to USD 117 million) for financing "Cruise Terminal 3" (dubbed "Launch Pad") project. In 2021, at the new CT3 Terminal was homeported Carnival's newest and largest (LNG-powered) liner Mardi Gras.

Hotel closest to the port

Starting May 12, 2019, the ship operates year-round scheduled 4-5-day "long weekend" Bahamas cruises. Departures are on Thursdays (4-day itinerary to Freeport and Nassau) and on Mondays and Saturdays (5-day itinerary to Amber Cove Dominicana and Grand Turk Island). As homeport, this is a major turnaround port destination (serving roundtrip itineraries) with annual shipping traffic 4,5+ million cruise ship tourists. Cape Canaveral is a leading USA homeport for all the world's largest cruise companies - CCL-Carnival, RCI-Royal Caribbean, NCL-Norwegian, DCL-Disney.

Future Plans for Port Canaveral Cruise Terminal

See our list of Port Canaveral park and cruise hotels here. Port Canaveral Official ParkingParking at the port is by far the most convenient. Parking lots and garages are next to each cruise terminal, making for a very short walk to check-in.

A few restrooms are also available within parking garages. There's ample parking outside of each terminal, mainly in covered parking garages that are easily accessible from the terminal. If you're planning to drive to Port Canaveral from points north and south, take I-95 to North Atlantic Avenue in Cape Canaveral, and turn left onto North Atlantic Avenue. If you're coming from points east, such as Orlando, take State Road 528 to Port Canaveral, then use Exit 54A for A Terminals or Exit 54B for B Terminals. A little farther away from the port is the nearby Kennedy Space Center to the north as well as the town of Cocoa Beach to the south.

If you are planning to stay before or after your cruise it is definitely worth checking out their events calendar to see if there are any events that catch your eye. They also have many on-going events to take part in like lighthouse tours, Florida beer tours and tastings, and half-day casino cruises that sail seven days a week. If you are arriving the day of your cruise, a cruise line transfer from the airport might be the easiest option, though likely not the cheapest. Of note, MSC Cruises will begin sailing from Port Canaveral for the first time as well.

Hotel Reward Programs

It's fun to sit on the deck with your cruise ship docked nearby. At lunch and dinner, expect specialties like tuna poke, fried shrimp and fish, jalapeño poppers, chowder and more. Plus, if you want to learn about the lionfish invasion of Florida's waters, Grills can fill you in and serve it to you as well. Near the port, your best option is the Hilton Cocoa Beach Oceanfront (47,000 to 50,000 Hilton Honors points per night). It's a full-service property with a restaurant, bar, beach grill and coffee shop so no matter what time you arrive, you should be able to grab a meal or a snack. The hotel is on the beach and many rooms have beautiful views.

There are four airports nearby, so no matter where you're flying from, you can getting to your ship is a snap. But with the theme park capital of the world -- Orlando -- just up the road, it's a no-brainer for cruisers to schedule some pre- and/or post-cruise vacation time. Make it a point to visit Walt Disney World, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Orlando and Legoland. Mega-cruise ships Freedom of the Seas and Carnival Dream were homeported in Port Canaveral in 2009, followed by the Disney Dream in 2011.

For a 5-month refurbishment project in 2020 was closed Disney's Cruise Terminal 8 (June through November).

These spots are for getting that “welcome aboard” photo that is a classic cruise staple. First, you’ll notice a large compass rose sitting on the floor in the center of the building, along with the image of the famous Carnival “whale tail” at its center. Above, you see the modern halo lights throughout the waiting area along with the large circular video board that scrolls through messages. Given the new terminal and health protocols, the layout looks to be a bit different than you might be used to. There will be kiosks near the entrance of the terminal for check-in for most passengers (in addition to completely online check-in already available from Carnival), then a pass through security. For those that need more help there will still be check-in stations staffed, but the emphasis on the traditional method of check-in seems diminished.

Due to the health crisis, some packages may be paused temporarily until cruises return in full. Below, we cover your parking lot options, along with details of each lot to help you find the right spot for you. If you've got a few hours or an entire day, Kennedy Space Center (Space Commerce Way, Merritt Island) is worth the visit. It became a daily occurrence by 1950 and is now one of the media's most popular features. QM2's cruising speed of 30 knots (56 kph / 35 mph) ranks it world’s fastest cruise liner currently in operation. RMS Queen Mary 2 is the first cruise ship with CODAG propulsion system (“combined diesel and gas”) based on gas turbines that magnify diesel-produced power. Theoretically, RMS Queen Mary 2 is a classless ship, but passengers are actually separated (like on all Cunard liners) as their onboard dining locations are according to their cabin's category/cruise fares paid.

Follows the complete list of Queen Mary 2 restaurants and food bars. Passengers staying in suites are offered new menus in refurbished settings by Princess Grill and Queens Grill restaurants. Britannia Restaurant, Golden Lion pub, and Veuve Clicquot Champagne Bar all boast refreshed menus.

The app also features an art guide to explore the onboard art collection and learn more about the many original paintings, sculptures and photographs throughout the fleet. RMS Queen Mary 2 (QM2) is Cunard Line's oldest and one of the world's most famous ocean liners of all time. As vessel class and design, QM2 is an "ocean liner" designed specifically for regularly scheduled passenger express Transatlantic crossings between the UK and the USA. Departures are from 3 homeports - in the USA (New York City), the UK (Southampton) and Germany (Hamburg). Most of these voyages are according to a fixed Transatlantic schedule with 7-day North Atlantic crossings between Southampton and NYC.

Five years later, Queen Elizabeth 2 was replaced on her transAtlantic runs by QM2 (Queen Mary 2). The 2004-built RMS Queen Mary 2 cruise ship is the oldest and most famous of all Cunard liners, with fleetmates the sisterships MS Queen Victoria (2007) and MS Queen Elizabeth (2010), and Cunard's newest liner (2024-built) Queen Anne. Princess Grill on deck 7 is for the more expensive staterooms- the Queen's Grill on the same deck - for the very best ones. Food is excellent - you may choose different starters, main courses, desserts, being changed every day.

These aspects include three thick black lines which recall the appearance of the first Queen Mary. For transporting passengers to shore, tenders pull up to loading stations, which have large hull doors for hydraulically opening outwards and forming a boarding platform. Online cruiser ship trackers work by using a combination of systems and technologies to retrieve information about ship locations. In addition to land-based very-high frequency radios (VHF), most cruise ship trackers enlist the help of Automatic Identification System (AIS), according to Cruising Earth.

Each evening a daily program for the next day will be delivered to your stateroom, showing detailed information about activities on board, opening and closing times of bars, restaurants, and other facilities.
